Doctor Who Flatline: 5 Questions On The Future Of Clara And The Doctor
2. Clara Becomes Her Own Travelling Doctor With Her Own Companion
Flatline brought something new to the Doctor / companion dynamic, with Clara becoming the Doctor, complete with sonic screwdriver and companion. She certainly proved her mettle, leading a group of humans away from danger though she had to lie to them in true-Twelfth Doctor fashion just to ensure they followed her. Still, she did come up with the plan to turn the aliens' energy against them and bring back the Doctor and the TARDIS in the process. In the end, Clara loved it. She needed that gratification from the Doctor that she stepped into his shoes well and had a look of complete satisfaction when he assured her she did. Armed with her experiences, not just from her travels with the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctor but from being scattered across time to save all the Doctors, she has arguably the most skills and experience to go off on her own since Sarah Jane or Romana. Some companions, like Martha, leave on their own accord. What if Clara leaves the Doctor not to return to Earth but to venture out into the vast universe on her own?
