Things are happening behind-the-scenes as well. Steven Moffat will be returning as showrunner (which is either a blessing or a curse depending on your view of him) and will write the season premiere. Moffats Sherlock partner Mark Gatiss will also return to write an episode. Other returning writers this season include Phil Ford (The Sarah Jane Adventures, Wizards vs. Aliens), Neil Cross (Luther, Spooks), Stephen Thompson (Sherlock, Sinbad) and Gareth Roberts (The Sarah Jane Adventures, Brookside). Meanwhile, weve got the directors and producers lined up as well. Brian Minchin (Torchwood, Wizards vs. Aliens) will serve as executive producer alongside Moffat, while Peter Bennet and Nikki Wilson will produce. As for directors, Ben Wheatley (The Wrong Door, Ideal) will direct the first two episodes, Paul Murphy (Waterloo Road, Trollies) will direct episodes three and six, Douglas Mackinnon (The Flying Scotsman, Jekyll) will direct episodes four and five and Paul Wilmhurst (Runaway, Da Vincis Demons) will direct episodes seven and eight. A lot of names to remember, to be sure. However, like a movie, theyll each bring their own style to the episodes, ensuring each story is different and unique.
