Its no secret that the last two Doctors have been youthful. David Tennant was 34 when he started, while Matt Smith clocked in as the youngest Doctor at age 26. Rather than stick with the young guns, Moffat and the Doctor Who crew chose an older actor. At 56 years old, Capaldi is the oldest Doctor since William Hartnell. Moffat stated last year that it would be exciting to see The Doctor go back to an appearance that more closely represents his age, saying, The Doctors always said he is thousands of years old and suddenly he is going to look closer to what we know he secretly is. He wont be the dashing young man he was a minute ago. Our total time with Twelve has barely lasted a minute, so theres not much we know about him. However, there have been hints given about his personality. Calling him as fierce shortly after Capaldi was announced, Moffat later stated that Twelve wouldnt be a boyfriend Doctor. He described him as a mix of Tom Baker and Christopher Eccelstons Doctors and said he would be mad, dangerous and difficult. Mark Gatiss confirmed the dramatic personality change, stating that Twelve would be a more dangerous and urgent Doctor. Each Doctor has had their own inner demons to deal with, but its safe to say that Ten and Elevens personalities were lighter compared to past versions. With Twelves arrival, it looks like well be going back to a Doctor whos darker and grittier, which will appropriately match the new raw tone of the series.
