Doctor Who: 10 Awesome Moments From Series 6's US Two-Parter

9. The Arrival Of The Doctor

The companions and the audience were united in their shock over the Doctor's unexpected (and unannounced) demise, reeling from what they had just seen and wondering what was supposed to happen next. What did happen next shocked them even more than watching the Doctor die... watching the Doctor walk in through the door as if nothing had happened. Well, from his point of view, nothing had happened. He had received an invitation to Lake Silencio just as they had although he hadn't guessed the identity of the sender. River swiftly figured out that they had witnessed the death of an older version of the Doctor. The one who had just arrived was roughly 200 years younger and was clueless about events leading up to what his companions had witnessed that day. They had seen his future, and the laws of time forbade them from warning him of what they had seen, a fact that Amy particularly disliked. The audience had been struggling to pick their jaws up off the floor after just witnessing the Doctor's death, but they fell right back down as soon as the Doctor walked back into their lives. Everyone had just seen him die, so how could he be alive again? This all pointed to a momentous secret, and it made the audience just that more eager and attentive to the rest of the episode and the rest of the season.
