Space Rhinos sounds like it could have been a really silly idea on paper, but it's the kind of silliness that Doctor Who can get away with by embracing it. This is achieved partly through the assonance of their language and of their name. "Judoon platoon upon the Moon" isn't a phrase most viewers will forget soon. The story behind it has also been a hit with fans - apparently Russell T Davies discovered that David Tennant struggled to say "oon" without slipping into his scottish accent, so he created the Judoon as a rather mischievous challenge for his lead actor. The Judoon don't just get by on being a little bit silly, however. Doctor Who has had enough aliens of that ilk, so that particular trait wouldn't necessarily set them apart. However, their role as bullish intergalactic cops for hire adds another dimension to them and, alongside their sillier (and fun) aspects, they can also be quite ruthless. They executed a scared patient in the hospital they took to the moon just because he hit one of them with a plant pot. However, beyond this ruthless side, they are roughly on the side of 'good'. They have a role within the mysterious Shadow Proclamation, seen in the Series 4 finale, providing fuel for fan imaginations and suggesting that there's still a lot more to learn about them.
