Doctor Who: 10 Best Aliens Of The New Series

5. The Ood

One of the most recognisable species from the new series, the Ood first appeared as a slave race taken over by the Beast in the 2006 two parter The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. They were perfectly docile to begin with, but then their eyes turned red and they became able to kill by placing their communication orb against a person's head... Then the Doctor travelled to their home planet and the Ood became more sympathetic. Fans discovered that they were a naturally trusting race (they had to be, born holding their brains in their hands), manipulated and abused by human corporations who forced them into servitude. However, they could go rabid when inflicted with a disease which turned their eyes that threatening red. Once they were freed from the threat of the humans, they became a peaceful civilisation and had a key impact in the Tenth Doctor's regeneration, summoning him to deal with the Master and singing him through his regeneration (for some reason). The tentacled design was a hit with viewers, creating yet another victory for the Doctor Who design team. They've also been the stars of numerous memes and have put in a few cameos in the show itself, suggesting that they aren't going to be forgotten any time soon.
