Doctor Who: 10 Best Moments Of The Eleventh Doctor

6. Rings Of Akhaten

As stated in an previous entry, the 11th Doctor was very good at epic monologues and, while the episode itself was tame by Doctor Who standards, the speech near the end of The Rings of Akhaten was indeed epic in and of itself. He goes on to tell his story to Akhaten, a planet/star that threatens to destroy Akhet. His story consists of his wounds from travelling so long, losing so many of his friends and family along the way. He asks the "parasite" to take his memories and thoughts to feed on. He mentions the end of the Last Great Time War, the beginning of the universe as well as the end of it, and how he knows secrets that must never be told or the consequences will be dire (a reference to the elusive "First Question"). While it appears the idea of overwhelming the planet with his life experiences initially worked, it took the "most important leaf in human history", i.e. the leaf that was responsible for Clara's parents meeting each other (no, seriously!), to cause the planet to fully recede. As this leaf could contain infinite possibilities, it finally satiates the planet who finally falls asleep for good. Or something like that, anyway.
