Doctor Who: 10 Defining Moments In River Song's Timeline

6. Tick Tock, Goes The Clock

After turning over a new leaf, Melody - now under her new alias of River Song - had been given a whole new lease of life and she subsequently spent the next few years studying archaeology at the Luna University with the hopes of one day using her studies to be reunited with the Doctor. There's a logic in there somewhere. Sadly, though, Madame Kovarian wasn't done with her yet and she managed to track River down on the day she received her doctorate. The eye patch lady was by this point pretty peeved that River's previous attempts to write the Doctor off had gone down like multiple lead balloons so she decided to take matters in her own hands (which, in retrospect, she should've just done in the first place - it would've said everyone a lot of time and effort) by forcing River back into that bloody astronaut suit and submerging her in Lake Silencio to await the Doctor's date with destiny. When the time came, though, River couldn't bring herself to shoot him. Don't forget that she had now chosen to dedicate her life to this man so she refused to seal the deal which resulted in a time paradox and all of history conversing on one single moment. It all escalated very quickly. A whole lot of time-wimey twists, one marriage and an entire series later, River went ahead and killed the Doctor (though she, and us, knew it was actually a Teselecta clone - just 'cause!) and thus time was restored. River didn't get the chance to partake in the celebratory festivities, though, because she was promptly sent to jail for being the murderous psychopath the world thought she was. It was exhausting for everyone concerned.
