5: Whos Bernard, your dad?
Dont be ridiculous. Thats Quatermass

It seems odd in hindsight that Lee Evans wasnt on Doctor Who a lot earlier than he actually was. It just feels so fundamentally right having him there. And as the fill-in eccentric scientific advisor to UNIT hes just about perfect; charming, eccentric, and completely believable. He stands up for whats right when ordered to leave the Doctor on the other side of the rift, he finds a way to measure the gap while being incredibly humble about it, and the touching hero worship of the moment when he hugs the Doctor at the end is just about the most touching bromance in the history of the show. So here we have a man that through the simple expedience of having basically founded a new branch of physics is forced to come up with names for the unit of measurement therein and without a hint of embarrassment names the first one after himself (well, it didnt do Mr. Watt any harm, did it?.) Which is a funny enough joke on its own. But then we go a step further and learn that 100 Malcolms is equal to one Bernard. Which prompts the exchange quoted above. Its simultaneously ridiculous, funny, and a lovely acknowledgement of the shows influences. As a side note, Planet of the Dead is one of the only Nu-Who episodes not available on Netflix. A very irritating discovery when youre trying to look up exact wording
