Doctor Who: 10 Funniest Moments From Nu-Who

4. €˜Everyone who isn€™t an American, drop your guns.€™

Doctor_Who_11_S03E03_A_Town_Called_Mercy_12_Stand The Town was Called Mercy. The Doctor had had enough and was going to throw the thinly veiled alien Nazi metaphor out of the city limits to be dispatched by a big cyborg with a legitimate complaint. Amy stops him, largely through not knowing where the safety is for her borrowed pistol, and the whole thing provides an excuse for a fairly cheap €“ although completely defensible €“ shot at American attitudes toward sidearms. Pun not intended, but I€™ve chosen to embrace it now that it€™s there. It€™s a funny line in a fairly slapstick moment of gunplay €“ stuck right in the middle of a deadly serious scene about not sinking to the level of your enemies, no matter what. In fact, this scene is an exact mirror of a scene earlier in the story where the frightened locals attempt to do the exact same thing to The Doctor. Only this time it€™s The Doctor who€™s the bad guy. It€™s a sobering moment and a fascinating discussion of what is justifiable for the greater good. Which just makes the joke in the middle that much funnier to me.
