Doctor Who: 10 More Things You Never Knew About Peter Capaldi

8. He Has Shared A Role With Benedict Cumberbatch

There's always cries from fans for a crossover between Doctor Who and Sherlock. Well, that hasn't happened so far but Peter Capaldi and Benedict Cumberbatch have played the same role. And that's basically the same as a crossover between the shows, right? Right!? Back in 1995, Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere TV series aired, to little fanfare, starring Peter Capaldi as fallen angel Islington, the heavenly being whose job is to guard over London Below, the mystical land that lies beneath the ordinary London Above. Fast forward to 2013 and Neil Gaiman, now geek royalty, brings Neverwhere to the radio, where the Angel Islington is played by Benedict Cumberbatch. That's not it for the connection between the current Doctor and Sherlock, though. Capaldi once played another, regular, doctor in ITV comedy Fortysomething, in which he was the rival to Hugh Laurie's main character. The 2003 series also starred a young Benedict as Laurie's son. That's House, Who and Holmes all in the same show. Not too shabby!
