Doctor Who: 10 New Pictures From The Christmas Special

9. The Doctor Of Darkness

Christmas time is the season of joy and goodwill to all men, but, by the looks of things, the festive spirits apparently don't extend unto the hearts of 2,000 year old Time Lords. That is, if this picture is anything to by, anyway. Here is Peter Capaldi's Doctor rocking that dark and ominous pose that fans have already seen their fair share of throughout his first 12 adventures at the helm of the TARDIS. The only difference this time is that he's armed with a tangerine in an apparent suggestion that they'll be playing an important role in the yuletide escapade. Try and peel away the layers of that mystery, why don't you? Perhaps he'd perk up a bit if somebody pointed out that there's a huge sleigh ride of unopened presents behind him, because the chances are there's at least one with his name on it. From what's already been revealed about Last Christmas, though, something tells us that opening gifts will be the last thing on the Time Lord's agenda this Christmas. Trapped on an Arctic base and under attack from terrifying creatures, our hero is about to come face to face with another historical icon, in the guise of Santa Claus himself (more in him later...), and as such, the episode - which premieres on Christmas Day on BBC One at 6:15pm - has been billed as one of his "most incredible adventures yet". But will they get on like a house on fire?
