Doctor Who: 10 New Pictures From The Christmas Special

5. A Christmas Angel

Here is another yuletide picture of Jenna Coleman looking particularly angelic in role as the Doctor's current companion Clara Oswald. This will be the impossible girl's third festive outing after her character's (second) introduction in 2012's The Snowmen which was followed a year later by her heartbreaking farewell to the Eleventh Doctor in The Time of the Doctor. Oh, how the nation did weep. As such, Clara has already faced her fair share of festive frights but it looks like this one will be her scariest to date, not to take anything away from the malevolence of the Great Intelligence, of course, which still holds itself as one of the Doctor's greatest seasonal submissions to date. As the leading man himself, Peter Capaldi, has recently explained: "It€™s such a clever episode because it€™s incredibly festive and jolly, but it's also quite terrifying too. I€™d say it€™s one of the scariest Christmas adventures ever." This year's extraterrestial excursion won't be the only thing Clara will have to face up to come Christmas Day. When we last saw her in the closing moments of the Series 8 finale Death in Heaven, she had just bid a heartfelt adieu to the Doctor after lying to him about the ultimate fate of her beloved Danny Pink. They parted on a porkie from the Doctor too, who decided to protect his best friend from further heartache by telling her that he had finally found Gallifrey. So, it looks like they'll both have to come clean with each other in Last Christmas, but if you can't be forgiving in the season of goodwill to all men, when can you? What's more, Clara's even seen to give the Doctor a cheeky peck on the cheek in the BBC's new Christmas trailer, so hopefully this is a sign that they'll be able to work through their differences. But wait... "Something quite profound happens to Clara in this story," Peter Capaldi has teased. Hmm. Perhaps not, then!
