Doctor Who: 10 NuWho Moments That Took Your Breath Away

5. The Return Of Amy Pond

The mid-season finale of series seven of NuWho brought about the end of popular characters Amy Pond and Rory Williams. Sent back in time to live to death, Amy and Rory had left the Doctor€™s side for the last time. Amy€™s departure was heartbreaking to watch. The Doctor, in truth, cared about Amy more than anyone else. Rory disappeared and the Doctor was sorry - he was sorry for Amy and he was sorry for her loss, but he never shed a tear. But when Amy was gone? He was broken. Eleven€™s time with Amy was special. Amy was special. She was the first face his new face saw, something that seems to have been an important truth throughout the revived series. Rose was special to Ten, Amy to Eleven and it would seem Clara is the same with Twelve. There€™s a connection to being the companion that helps the Doctor adjust to the change in his life. Amy was Eleven€™s, just as much as Eleven was Amy€™s. So it was poignant that at his darkest moment - the moment that his last incarnation (potentially) €“ was coming to an end, that he would see the face of the person who he cared for more than any other in the world. Clara was already with him but he needed to see Amy, just so that he could say goodbye. "Raggedy man, goodnight€ was the moment that made fans shiver all around the world.
