Doctor Who: 10 NuWho Moments That Took Your Breath Away
6. The First Regeneration
Synonymous with Doctor Who, along with the Sonic Screwdriver and the TARDIS, is the inevitability of regeneration. Less than a week after the Doctors return to our screens, it was announced that Christopher Eccleston was not going to continue in the leading role after the conclusion of Series 1. David Tennant was already in the frame and his odds slashed almost immediately. The show had, however, already been confirmed to be returning for a second series which meant one thing - there would be a regeneration. Fans of the original series had already experienced this - at this point at least - up to seven times depending on when they started to watch the show. But for NuWhovians, this was going to be something different - something new. This was going to be change like nothing they had seen before. Some would argue that Ecclestons early exit led to fans being less attached and emotionally invested as he was gone before he made the impact some would have liked. No doubt he was excellent in the role but knowing he was going to leave before fans had even got to know him made the first regeneration a more curious thing than it was saddening. When Eccleston changed, and fans got their first look at who would become the peoples favourite NuWho Doctor so far, the show changed. It was definitely a moment to remember.
