Doctor Who: 10 Predictions For The 10th Anniversary Of NuWho

7. A Spin Off Show?

Unlike the failed attempts of Classic Who, Nu Who has launched two successful spin off shows, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. Sadly the first ended due to the death of Elisabeth Sladen while series 4 of the latter - Miracle Day - may have killed off the more 'adult' spin off altogether. But budget depending, 10 years of Doctor Who would be the perfect opportunity to kick start another one. And the possibilities are endless. River Song and Jack Harkness would be interesting but the likely candidate would be the Paternoster Gang, Strax, Vastra and Jenny Flint. They were a staple of the latter half of Matt Smith's years and even helped to introduce Peter Capaldi's Doctor in Deep Breath. There is no news on whether they might return to Doctor Who but for the majority of fans it would be welcomed. What's more, Series 7's The Crimson Horror served as quasi pilot for a spin off - if Mark Gatiss doesn't take over from Moffat as the next Doctor Who showrunner then he has already demonstrated his ability to create a true Gothic horror masterpiece featuring these three unlikely heroes. Alternatively, Series 9 could set up new characters and storylines that could then lead into their own spin off. An announcement of a new series in 2015 would be a great 'Nu Who' birthday present!
