Doctor Who: 10 Reasons To Miss The Eleventh Doctor

5. The Almost-Sibling Relationship With His Companions

doctor-who-lets-kill-hitler So much of Davies's era focussed on Rose, from her development with the Doctor, to her loss, to her return, to her sort of ending up with him (although they sadly never showed the Metacrisis Doctor tell Rose, "By the way, I'm half-Donna..."). And whilst there were other companions and they each had different relationships with the Doctor, we always went back to Rose. We actually did this literally on New Year's Day 2005, in The End of Time. The relationship with Amy was totally different though. There were no romantic undertones (apart from that one time, obviously, but you can't exactly call that romantic), no suggestion of the Doctor getting over anyone, and they were just friends. Best friends. They grew up together as characters, and both actors, fresh-faced and relatively unknown, became huge stars together. They were almost like siblings. And Clara's not that different in relationship. It's more avuncular perhaps, but it's the sort of relationship that's as relevant to kids as it is to adults. Everyone has an Eleven-Companion relationship with someone. Even my cats, Abby and Alfie. They've never found Cybermen in the garage though, despite looking everywhere.
