Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Peter Capaldi

1. He Was Going To Quit Acting Before The Thick Of It

After a string of "red herring of the week" roles on shows like Midsomer Murders and Foyle's War, Peter Capaldi started to wonder if anything more would ever happen to him. It's easy to see why - after an early career of award wins and various interesting roles, suddenly having bit parts on procedurals would discourage many actors. From the 'Mighty Big If' interview: €œMy career has had a lot of ups and downs, and I was getting very fed up with the whole thing,€ he said. Then, The Thick of It creator Armando Ianucci wanted him to audition for €œa political thing€. That morning, Capaldi had a different audition for a different political role, a bit part on a single television episode, and he knew everyone involved... and he still didn't get the part. €œI'm quite jaded by this time. I was really hacked off by the time I was meeting Armando.€ That anger translated well into his audition, in which he was to improvise sacking someone. The rest, as they say, is history. Malcolm Tucker became Britain's Sweary Treasure and from that beloved role, he became more widely known. And that combination of luck and tenacity brought him to where he is today. Peter Capaldi is the Doctor. What did you think of this list? Are there any other little known facts about the Twelfth Doctor star that should have been included?
