Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Peter Capaldi

9. He Got His First Film Role Through A Drunken Conversation

During an interview with Richard Strange's 'A Mighty Big If' series, Capaldi says: €œI was renting a room in the West End of Glasgow and I came home rather worse for wear - I'd had quite a few drinks - and came into the kitchen and he was in the kitchen with my landlady. She was a costume designer and they'd done a film for BBC together, so they were talking about that. And I just dribbled on for about an hour, talking a lot of crap. I'd dyed red hair and an earring and leather trousers and I guess I must have made some impression because a few days later, he said, 'Do you want to be in a film?' I had no idea it was a proper film.€ Local Hero, entirely shot in Scotland, starred Peter Riegart and Burt Lancaster and it also had the same producer as Chariots of Fire. Peter was 23 years old at the time and the punk rock look just had to go. €œI had to take my earring out. They had to wait until my hair dye had grown out,€ he said, €œand I always feel as though I'm so lucky to have gotten any job at all.€
