In addition to having autographs from Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, Peter Capaldi also had a letter from William Hartnell's wife, Heather McIntyre, since Hartnell was too ill at the time to write back himself. Remember that teenage Peter also had fanart published in Doctor Who Magazine in 1978. The man was serious about his appreciation. During an appearance at Janet Fielding's charity convention, Project Motormouth - Fielding, of course, played Tegan during the Fifth Doctor's run - Capaldi told fans that he had a Bonfire of the Vanities moment with all his Doctor Who memorabilia. He says, What inevitably happens, if you grow up with it, you reach a stage when you leave it. The first four Doctors were the ones I grew up with. And so towards the end of Tom' time, I sort of drifted off because I went to college and going out into the world and stuff like that. So next time you're thinking you're just too punk rock for your childhood interests, perhaps store your things in a box instead. Your future self may thank you.
