Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Went To War
4. Battle Of Canary Wharf
The Battle of Canary Wharf pitted the Doctor's two greatest enemies - the Daleks and the Cybermen - against each other, with terrible consequences. Surprisingly, 2006's Doomsday was the first time in Doctor Who history they had battled it out on our screens and it is now instantly iconic.
After breaking through the space-time Void from a parallel world, the Cybermen readied themselves to upgrade our world. They didn't count on four Daleks - the Cult of Skaro - breaking out of the Void ahead of them. Instantly, the Daleks and the Cybermen declared war on each other, with both races branding themselves as the superior species. With Cyberman weapons completely ineffective against the Dalek shells, the battle looked one-sided.
Then, unleashing millions of Daleks from inside the Genesis Ark, a prison using Time Lord 'bigger-on-the-inside' technology, the Cult of Skaro immediately had another advantage over the silver giants. Descending on London, these deadly warrior races lit up the skies - exterminating and deleting everyone in sight.
The battle was finally ended by the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler who sent both armies back into the Void - but at a cost. Rose became trapped at the other side of the Void in the parallel world.
The Cult of Skaro performed an emergency temporal shift, fleeing the battle - and defeat by the Doctor. He would later catch up with them in 1930s New York, but that's another battle altogether...
