Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Went To War

3. The Siege Of Trenzalore

The Siege of Trenzalore from 2013's The Time of the Doctor was a nine-hundred-year conflict which battled the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Silence, and more, against the Eleventh Doctor and a small village.

A crack in time was located on Trenzalore which would allow the Time Lords to return. The Doctor - bound by the planet's truth-field - only had to speak his true name to free them. With his enemies seeking the decimation of the Time Lords and the Doctor refusing to let his people return to incite war, a stand-off ensued.

The siege began, with enemies slipping through the forcefield onto the planet. Over time, their means were becoming more cunning, with even the Cybermen downgrading themselves to wood to break through unnoticed. When only the Daleks remained, an ancient Doctor and the Silence sided to prevent their victory.

Time hadn't been good to the Doctor. On the final day of the siege, he began to die from old age - having used up all of his regenerations.

It was only when the Doctor was granted a new set of regenerations by the Time Lords he was protecting did the Siege end. Using his regeneration enemy, the Doctor destroyed the Dalek Mothership and won the day.

However, despite the hundreds of years of death and destruction, the Great Intelligence claimed that Trenzalore was only a minor skirmish, and the Doctor had fought in far more devastating battles...
