Doctor Who: 11 New Who Moments That Never Made It To Screen

2. Daleks And Time Lords United €“ The End Of Time Part Two

Surprisingly for an episode so focussed on the Time War, the Daleks are entirely absent from the second part of The End Of Time save for a few crashed Dalek saucers outside the Capitol on Gallifrey. But this wasn€™t always the case, with Russell T. Davies briefly flirting with an end to the Tenth Doctor€™s life that had a significantly larger €œOh crap€ factor. Part Two of The End Of Time reveals Rassilon and the High Council of Gallifrey as the bigger villains to the Master, having decided on complete annihilation of everything in the universe including themselves. But originally the Daleks would have been getting on the act as well. After all, apocalyptic genocide is sort of their thing. If this plan had gone forward, the story for Part Two would have been that the Daleks and Time Lords had forged an alliance against the Doctor with the mutual goal of escaping total destruction by a mix of the Moment and a Time Lock. An altogether more shocking conclusion to the Time War than you€™d expect and an even better reason for the Doctor to grab Wilf€™s gun, but kind of bordering on overkill. The idea was eventually dropped after Davies discussed it with Steven Moffat during a period of collaboration between them to create as smooth a transition between the two Doctors and showrunners as possible. A factor in the Daleks being removed from The End Of Time might have been Moffat€™s plan to use them just a few months later in Mark Gatiss€™ Victory Of The Daleks. An episode that was both a direct sequel to Journey€™s End and a substantial revamp for the Daleks themselves. Though it could just as easily have been done to create a stronger story.
