Doctor Who: 11 Things You Never Knew About Series 5 Of NuWho
8. The Daleks Actually Won
The redesigned Daleks created a furore when they were first revealed. Many viewers branded them 'Power Rangers' that were created purely to sell more merchandise. It's noteable that the red, blue, white, yellow and orange Daleks have made diminished appearances since Victory of Daleks but there's something else about this episode that audiences tend to forget. It marked the first time in NuWho that the infamous pepperpots actually won. The Russell T Davies era Dalek stories always ended with every single one of them being obliterated from existence which made them less of a credible threat each time they faced the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. But these Daleks were very different. They achieved their plan, tricked the Doctor and flew off to start a new Dalek Empire. After a quick stop to form the Alliance, they emerge in Series 7's Asylum Of The Daleks as a mighty force of old to be reckoned with. As such, Victory of the Daleks reestablished them as the credible threat they once were - if audiences could get past their bright, garish rainbow colours, that is!
