4. More Missy
This madam has already caused quite a divide (
to put it lightly!) within the Doctor Who fandom since her long awaited reveal as the Master at the end of the last series and Missy's marauders will be thrilled to hear that she'll be back with a vengeance in Series 9. Unfortunately, her haters are just going to have to deal with it! Her real life alter ego, Michelle Gomez, confirmed the news herself and it's safe to say that you either love or hate her portrayal of the Doctor's arch nemesis. There is seemingly no in between but It's obvious that the show isn't quite done with her yet. It was a given, really, since her starring role in the climactic Series 8 finale left various questions - including the circumstances of her escape from Gallifrey - unanswered so it felt like a set up story more than anything else. Just what the events of Dark Water and Death in Heaven were setting the character up for, though, remains to be seen. One of the most obvious scenarios is that her comeback will tie in with the Doctor's long overdue discovery of Gallifrey, especially since she was responsible for raising his hopes by leading him to the location after lying about its coordinates, but nobody (well, apart from Steven Moffat) knows if he's even due to find it any time soon which effectively debunks that rumour straight off the bat anyway. It's still nice to speculate, though. Still, the most intriguing development that coincided with the arrival of the renegade Time Lord's female incarnation is that, to all intents and purposes, she just wants to be the Doctor's friend again (yes, believe it or not but that's what she was going for by creating an entire army of Cybermen to feast on the dead) so it'll certainly be interesting to see what happens next. Who knows what tricks she'll have up her sleeve as her descent into the unfathomable world of malevolent madness continues? The Doctor can probably wait to find out but he's surely one of the only ones who can. Did she mention... "bananas"?
