Doctor Who: 12 Things You Need To Know About Series 9

5. There Will Be Consequences

Last year's series was acclaimed for its darker exploration into what it's really like to be a time traveller's companion and it looks like that's a trend that will be continuing throughout Series 9, too. For Clara Oswald, the Twelfth Doctor's debut string of adventures turned out to be a rather turbulent ride indeed... to put it lightly. Not only was she initially struggling to come to terms with the loss of the Eleventh Doctor, she was also trying to juggle two separate worlds as she continued her timey-wimey escapades whilst juggling her real life liaisons as an English teacher at Coal Hill School. She thought she had it all under control at one point, but the universe had other ideas. Matters only intensified for her when she fell head over heels for her colleague Danny Pink and she soon realised that she was never going to have it both ways. Was she going to bid farewell to the Doctor in favour of a normal life? Her constant to-ing and fro-ing dominated Series 8 but her fate was ultimately sealed on her behalf. As of Last Christmas, though, she's back aboard the TARDIS for adventures anew and Steven Moffat has teased that it won't be a happily ever after for long. Obviously, because that would just be boring. According to the showrunner, Clara will face yet more harsh realities in Series 9 but after watching the love of her life being transformed into a Cyberman and float up into the sky, what else could she possibly go through? Something tells us Moffat's malevolent mind will be able to come up with something. Let's just hope the consequences aren't too dire for our impossible girl. The poor girl deserves a medal.
