Doctor Who: 14 Most Paused Moments Of The Last Decade
14. An Unexpected Arrival (The Runaway Bride)
One of the best - if 'best' is even the right word - things about Doctor Who is that the end is never really the end. In fact, it's usually just the beginning, and this was especially true at the end of that Series 2 finale. To cut a very long story short (and it's not like any of us need reminding, anyway!), the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler had just bid their final - *ahem* - farewell in what is still widely remembered as one of the most heartbreaking scenes in television history... bar none. She followed his voice across the waters, he burnt up an entire sun just to say goodbye, blah blah blah - you know the drill by now. What really managed to shock, confuse and enthral the nation in equal measure, however, is what happened next. Let's set the scene. There was our beloved Time Lord, alone in the TARDIS once more, a broken man with a single tear rolling down his cheek... and then Catherine 'Am I bovvered?' Tate appears (in a wedding dress, of all things!) before the viewers are told that they'll have to wait until Christmas Day to find out how the hell she even got there in the first place. Damn you, Russell! Nobody can blame you for having to hit the 'pause' button as Doomsday's ends credits roll. There was a lot to take in.
