Doctor Who: 5 Reasons The Twelfth Doctor's Screwdriver Should Regenerate

2. It Doesn't Fit His Personality

Whenever a Whovian characterises the Eleventh Doctor, words such as "childish" and "quirky" come to mind. He's always flapping his hands about, babbling on and flitting from one thing to the next with the attention span of a 5 year old. A massive sonic screwdriver, therefore, with bonus additions that are installed only for the of sake impressing others, is ideal. It's as if he's a small boy, marvelling at a new toy he found, wielding it with forced stoicism, pointing it everywhere and trying to imitate looking important as his retinue of Ponds trudge behind. This behaviour, however, is not commonplace for the Twelfth Doctor, who has matured to exude a harsher, more insensitive attitude and communicating with abrupt, unceremonious remarks. He's still befuddled and entertained by new discoveries, but attempts (and usually fails) to suppress his enthusiasm, rather than emphasising and rambling with it, as the Eleventh Doctor made a habit of doing. With this in mind, a minimalistic, smaller and more elegant sonic screwdriver would suit Capaldi's Doctor, something reminiscent of John Hurt's austere model, perhaps. Surely, the "rebel Time Lord" has outgrown toys? Nah!

When she's writing about Doctor Who, she anticipates her reward: watching yet another Doctor Who episode.
