Doctor Who: 6 Biggest Dalek Triumphs Of The New Series

1. The Return (Dalek)

Dalek Series 1
BBC

After the opening episode itself, the return of the Daleks was probably the most anticipated moment of the first series of the revival. How would the creative team manage the return of the Doctor's most iconic villains? The mutants from Skaro almost didn't even make it in - negotiations with the Terry Nation estate almost didn't conclude in a manner to let the Daleks be used.

However, they appeared, and their return made for one of the best episodes of the revival. There was only one Dalek in the Series 1 episode "Dalek" but it proved to be more than enough. It reaffirmed the Daleks' destructive capacity by exterminating it's way through Van Statten's secret facility, taking out highly trained military as if they were red shirts (wait, wrong franchise...).

It absorbed Rose's DNA, too, giving it human emotions. The Dalek believing this to be an infection gave a fantastic insight into Dalek ideas and viewpoints for new viewers. Not only that, but the new shiny design proved to be almost as popular as the orignals and has proven suprisingly difficult to replace, leading to it still being used today.

The return successfully brought the hate-filled pepperpots to a new generation, and for that it manages to take the top spot as the best use of the Daleks of NuWho.
