5. The Idiots Lantern - Meh
This one is often seen as either really bad or really good, I just find it a little weak. The premise is interesting and the Wire could have been chilling, the problem with this episode is in the execution. Mark Gatiss is known for his dark comedy the League of Gentleman and some of his greatest work as a writer is displayed in that series. I feel like the Wire would feel right at home in an episode of that show. It's almost as if he's trying to achieve an unnerving and creepily funny premise but due to it's execution, you just don't know what to feel. The Father/ Son subplot feels really underdeveloped and just seems to paint the Father as a babbling one dimensional bad guy. The Tenth Doctor and Rose's interactions in this one feel incredibly obnoxious especially at the beginning. The whole thing just reeks of emptiness, it's not bad, it just feels awkward and out of place. There were some great ideas but they got lost in the execution where the tone of the episode feels really disjointing. Again, not bad, or good, just meh.
