Doctor Who 60th Anniversary: 10 Huge Rumours And Leaks You Need To Know
4. Miriam Margolyes Has Joined The Cast
With Neil Patrick Harris, Bernard Cribbins, and Catherine Tate, the cast for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary was already looking exciting, but if a recent rumour is to be believed, then yet another big name has been added to the lineup.
According to The Sun, Miriam Margolyes will be making a "substantial guest appearance" in one of next year's episodes. Margolyes has had a decades-long career across both the big and small screens, but is perhaps most famous for playing Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter movies.
Her role - should this rumour prove accurate - is being kept under wraps for now, but The Sun's sources did add this bit of detail:
“The show’s creators felt that she was such a great character in real life that she was a natural choice to play the character she will have on the sci-fi show, which the BBC are keeping a closely-guarded secret."
It's basically a meme to predict the Rani at this point, but we could totally see Margolyes playing a cheekier version of that character. But of course, she could just as easily be playing an original RTD creation.
