It's always fun to revisit old leaks to see if there was any truth to them.

When doing so with this particular leak - which was posted on Reddit in August, over two months before The Power of the Doctor aired - you'll find that much of what was said ended up being right. Very interesting indeed.

Five, Six, and Seven appearing? Check. Mel Bush appearing? Check. Big Finish's Scott Handcock as the script editor for RTD2? Also check.

That same leak also mentions a few other things - like the Disney+ deal, and that the Flux will be referenced in the 60th anniversary - but the juiciest tidbit is that Steven Moffat and Sophie Petzal will write episodes for RTD2.

Petzal is an up-and-coming writer best known for her critically-acclaimed drama series Blood. She's also a Doctor Who fan, and has even expressed interest in writing for the show. As for Moffat, he needs no introduction, having been showrunner between 2010 and 2017, as well as writing episodes like Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace, and Silence in the Library under RTD.

While this rumour is in relation to Series 14 and beyond, not the 60th anniversary (RTD is writing every episode next year), it's too tantalising to not discuss. Yes, it's important for Doctor Who to keep pushing forward and bringing in new creative voices like Petzal, but throwing a bone to some seasoned pros isn't a bad idea either.

Who's going to complain if one of Doctor Who's great writers gets an episode during RTD2? The man who gave us the Weeping Angels, the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, and some of the smartest, most memorable stories in the show?

Certainly not us.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
