Doctor Who: 8 Fixes For Series 13

4. Tone Down The Explicitly Political Plots

Orphan 55 Doctor Who

Since the casting of Jodie Whittaker (which was now three years ago by the way, get over it), Doctor Who is now observed as an overtly 'political television series. In the case of Jodie Whittaker's casting, that's complete rubbish. As for some of the stories in Series 12, maybe not so much.

'Orphan 55' is not only arguably the worst episode in Doctor Who history, the climate change sub-plot was so explicitly hammered home it was borderline unbearable. The pollution sub-plot of 'Praxeus,' though better woven into the story was still rather loud, and 'Can You Hear Me?' almost got away with a perfect mental health sub-plot before it unfortunately fell at the last hurdle.

Political plot points in Doctor Who nothing new, look back to the classic series for multiple societal commentaries masquerading as plot threads, but being this overt about the whole message makes for some really un-enjoyable viewing.

Also, it'll stop those still irritated about a woman being The Doctor whinging more than they already do.

Born in Theatre, sits at a Computer. After over a decade of tinkering with Video Editing software, Rich gets to spend his precious time editing whatever's thrown at him. Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
