Doctor Who: 8 Jon Pertwee Serials You Need To Revisit In January

3. The Curse Of Peladon (1972)

Another story barely makes it on to the list - and in this case, it really is "barely". Now, while it€™s true that otherwise sane people such as Gary Russell really like this story and its sequel (enough to write an entire book based on it in Russell€™s case), it really is something of an acquired taste. Other equally sane people such as Paul Cornell have said of this story that €œIts heart is in the right place, but its brain isn€™t". That pretty much sums up the polarising views on Peladon. So, what€™s actually worth celebrating about this story, then? The Ice Warriors are back after a very long absence and they€™re not presented as villains, so that€™s something. Another member of the Troughton family gets to return to Doctor Who and in a much bigger role than the previous time. It€™s also worth watching this story just to imagine how bad the Alpha Centauri costume must€™ve been to necessitate putting that cape on it. And watching Jon Pertwee sing his Venusian lullaby to Aggedor is rather sweet. Apart from that€ eh!?
