Doctor Who: 8 Mistakes That Series 13 NEEDS To Fix

3. No More Pointless Cameos

Look. We all love Captain Jack. John Barrowman is an international treasure and Doctor Who fans everywhere have been begging for him to return to our screens in some form since Torchwood: Miracle Day finished airing. But not like this.

Fugitive of the Judoon is an episode where the companions are quite literally beamed out of the main plot one by one to stand around doing nothing on a spaceship. Chibnall thinks that having fan favourite Captain Jack there will distract us long enough to forget that what we’re watching is insanely boring.

At the episode’s conclusion, he warns that the Doctor shouldn’t give ‘The Lone Cyberman what it wants, something that she probably could’ve worked out herself, and vanishes from the series once again.

Beloved characters returning after a long absence is very welcome, of course. But having them only show up for hollow fan service and not as actually useful additions to the plot of the episode is worse than them not appearing at all.

If any more former companions make cameo appearances in Series 13, there must be a point to all of it. Otherwise, it’s just painfully sad. Thankfully, Captain Jack is returning in 'Revolution of the Daleks', so this cameo wasn't all useless.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
