Doctor Who: 8 Mistakes That Series 13 NEEDS To Fix
1. The Master
Much like how Chibnall’s Doctor is just imitating the previous incarnations, his Master seems to be more of a greatest hits compilation than a unique take on the character.
While Sacha Dhawan is clearly giving it his all in every scene, he can’t quite overcome the generic role that he’s been given. Every line of Dhawan’s dialogue could be given to John Simm’s Master and you wouldn’t be able to tell that it wasn’t originally written for the latter.
Honestly, the Master should probably be given a break for a few seasons like he was for the Eleventh Doctor era. But if Chibnall does insist on having him appear in Series 13, the main direction should be for him to tone it down.
A calmer, more quietly calculating take on the Doctor’s greatest foe would help give him a greater sense of menace.
Another option is an attempt at a redemption arc, but this was already done brilliantly for Missy not too long ago and would likely be a re-tread of the same emotional beats.
Either that or he could bring the Rani back. But only if he gets really desperate.
