Doctor Who Eve Of The Daleks: 10 Huge Questions After The New Year Special

9. Is The Universe Still Damaged By The Flux?

One unresolved part of the Doctor Who Flux story was whether or not the first Flux event, which wiped out most of the universe, had been reversed. The destruction of the Flux came at the expense of hordes of Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans as their matter collided with the antimatter. Strictly speaking, the Doctor is only solely responsible for the Sontaran casualties, but the Daleks blame her for their destruction.

Periodic reboots are necessary in Doctor Who, to realign its narrative world with our own, but it seems we aren’t quite there yet this time. This is still a world ravaged by the forces unleashed by Tecteun and the Ravagers. The Earth is therefore in a vulnerable position when it comes to alien invasion. It’s the most habitable planet in the universe, if not the only one. On the plus side, unless they have the ability to travel in time, most of the potential invaders have massively depleted forces, including the Daleks. All they can do for now is send tiny execution squads off in search of their greatest enemy.

Somewhere then, Vinder and Bel are still out there searching for survivors of the Flux, the Grand Serpent is still stranded on a tiny asteroid, and Time is still plotting another escape bid, one that will almost certainly involve the Doctor and her vengeful enemies.
