Doctor Who: Every NuWho Companion Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Martha Jones

Doctor Who Martha Jones Exit
BBC

Martha Jones was given a tough task when she stepped into the TARDIS. Not only did she need to make audiences forget about the then-epic love story between Rose and The Doctor, but she was also written as having feelings for him - which was as much a mistake then as it is now!

However, despite these limitations, she rose to the task fantastically. She was one of The Doctor's more down-to-earth companions, exceeding him in some areas - particularly in humanity. Her will to stay behind and care for her family is at the other end of the spectrum from The Doctor's method of escaping through the TARDIS at the end of each mission.

Her return in the fourth season displayed just how much that she had grown, no longer pining for The Doctor. She worked alongside UNIT, now a qualified MD. Her final appearance to-date saw her as something of an action hero with her husband, Mickey Smith.

Martha was one of the best additions to the TARDIS, with episodes that only get better with time.
