Doctor Who: Every Russell T Davies Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
24. Dot And Bubble
The first Doctor/companion-lite story to appear on this list, Dot and Bubble is a bit of a mixed bag.
On the one hand It’s another RTD2 story with a really sophisticated vibe. The commentary on racism is pretty damn smart. And having the Doctor experience racism for the first time in a futuristic rather than historical adventure was an inspired, unexpected move.
But then, there’s something slightly iffy about the way racism is treated as a plot twist. Not to mention the fact that there’s no comeuppance for the residents of Finetime (on screen at least).
Likewise, the decision to make such the lead character such a cow was a curious one… though Callie Cooke is incredible as Lindy, and the moment she betrays Ricky September kind of makes it all worth it.
It’s definitely a clever story, but possibly a bit too clever for its own good.
