Doctor Who: Every Russell T Davies Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
19. Aliens Of London/World War Three
RTD’s first two-parter gets a bit of a bad rep, largely because of antagonists.
And to tackle that one head on, yes, the constant fart jokes are tedious (and much better suited to The Sarah Jane Adventures).
But this aside, the Slitheen are actually a brilliantly dark creation. They literally skin people alive and wear their bodies as clothes!
And the idea of said aliens infiltrating the heart of the British government in order to enact their nefarious plan, while using a staged spaceship crash and decoy alien to divert people’s attention, is delicious. As with real life, perhaps, the real villains are right under our noses…
On top of that we get plenty of political in-jokes, a wonderful debut from Penelope Wilton as Harriet Jones, and some lovely character moments for Jackie and Rose.
In other words, lots to enjoy if you can look past the farts!
