7. Wild Blue Yonder
Making one of Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials a Doctor/Donna two-hander was a risky choice. But the resulting episode was one of the strongest in years.
Wild Blue Yonder strips everything right back, adopting a slower, classic-Who style pace and keeping the threat in the shadows rather than showing it off straight away.
The eventual reveal of what the Doctor and Donna are up against is masterfully done, the cutting between the two rooms subtly suggesting something is wrong before we can work out what.
What follows is plenty of absurd visuals, the Doctor having to finally face his demons, and an ending which makes you think Donna might have actually kicked the bucket.
It’s a proper showcase for Tennant and Tate. And in a world where generative AI is becoming more advanced and weak imitations are plastered across the web, it feels more relevant with each passing day.
