35. The Legend Of Ruby Sunday/Empire Of Death
The 2024 season finale wasn’t much better than its opener.
The Legend of Ruby Sunday has a few fun moments but it doesn't really do anything to meaningfully push the story forward until its final few minutes.
Empire of Death just throws everything at the wall in the hope that something will stick – from the Doctor rewatching Pyramids of Mars in a TARDIS full of old props to the magical road sign appearing on Ruby Road. None of it makes any sense!
Ruby's mother being a normal woman is fine in principle but ultimately feels misleading given all the supernatural clues we'd had in the previous episodes.
Rather than wrapping up the season in a satisfying way, it just makes you wonder why you bothered.
