10 Doctor Who Questions Not Even Fans Know The Answer To

4. What Does The Centre Of Every Other TARDIS Look Like?

Despite being infinitely bigger on the inside, we tend to only ever see one small part of the TARDIS – that being the console room.

The one major exception was the Eleventh Doctor's second TARDIS, which we got to journey to the centre of in 2013... even if it was just loads of similar-looking corridors and brief glimpses of rooms.

We also got a decent glimpse inside the TARDIS in classic stories like The Invasion of Time, which showcased the famous TARDIS swimming pool.

But what would the innards of the other TARDISes look like?

We saw some corridors from the Eleventh Doctor’s first TARDIS in The Doctor’s Wife, but they were pretty underwhelming. With all those walkways and doorways, you’d have thought it would be something much more bonkers.

Thirteen’s TARDIS feels like it would be one big optical illusion, given the way the console room walls fade into the shadows. Would there even be rigid boundaries between rooms, or would they just bleed into each other?

Then if the console room is anything to go by, the RTD2 TARDIS would be very bright and clean and empty, with colour-changing roundels in every room.

Ultimately it's a question of budgets, and how much of the TARDIS is worth building. It also depends on the showrunner – RTD is on record saying that he views the TARDIS simply as a vehicle to get from A to B, while someone like Moffat seemed to take much more interest in utilising it.

Either way it's fun to ponder the crazy rooms and visuals that might lurk in the depths of other Doctors' time ships. It's unlikely the show will ever reveal too much, though this does seem like fertile ground for stuff like the comics to explore!
