Doctor Who: Ranking New Who Finales From Worst To Best

6. The Stolen Earth/Journey's End

Back in 2008, Doctor Who felt like it was at the height of its acclaimed success. Four series in and Russell T Davies had not only managed to revitalise a cult British classic, but also gave us two distinct spin-offs to go alongside it. Naturally, it was a huge deal when Russell T Davies decided to merge all of his ideas into one massive crossover, like a celebration of his era.

Granted, this worked much better during The Stolen Earth when the various characters had something to do. Journey's End just sees them do stuff for the sake of justifying their existence, as opposed to having a vital role in the grander storyline. That, and deliver Davros' punchline about The Doctor basically crafting his own makeshift army, due to his bad influence.

Overall, it was an epic experience, but it certainly has plenty of flaws, from story threads feeling wasted, the TARDIS team being way too overcrowded, and the needless overbearing character journey's that needed to be wrapped up in such dramatic ways. But the experience of this crossover is certainly memorable (even if that surprise regeneration was a huge cop-out).

Plus, the Daleks genuinely felt like a dominating threat, granting us some rather chilling moments, as well as a sequence that filled us with dread, due to not knowing how they were going to be stopped during their near moment of victory. And let's not forget about Julian Bleach's terrific performance as Davros.
