Doctor Who Regenerations: Ranked From Worst To Best

7. The Seventh Doctor To The Eighth Doctor

Events were made 100% canon in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie by showing the on screen regeneration from the Seventh Doctor to the Eighth. While this was terribly sporting of McCoy to come onboard for what is, essentially, a short cameo, it's a real shame that his Doctor had to go in such an anticlimactic way. Gunned down in his apparent prime, the Seventh Doctor is killed either by the gunshots or by the confusion of the surgeons trying to save his life. Either way, this is a death unbefitting of a Time Lord and the regeneration that follows is often as maligned as the Seventh Doctor's exit. In a manner not dissimilar to the Second Doctor's regeneration, this transition seems to be based around McCoy's elastic face and his ability to gurn 'til the cows come home. The Frankenstein imagery, though interesting, seems a little misplaced and so the thunder and lightning gives an odd juxtaposition to who fans know the Doctor to be. Furthermore, the transition, essentially, is fairly swift and happens while the Doctor is technically dead. A slightly... disturbing regeneration, certainly... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKRa06hP6vc

Christie D. Inman-Hall hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
