Doctor Who Review: Mummy On The Orient Express - 10 Ways To Read The Cards

8. The Wheel Of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune is the card of fate and destiny. The question of whether the Doctor has any real control over where he goes or what crises he must deal with is up for debate. Clara asks if the Doctor loves what he does but what she really wants is his permission to not feel guilty over her desire to continue traveling. This is a problematic turn for Clara€™s character. Up until this point the Clara of series eight was a strong female character with a mind of her own and was not afraid to challenge the Doctor and his methods. She should not need to seek approval from either the Doctor or Danny over how she chooses to lead her life. Is the Doctor taking advantage of Clara€™s naiveté? She railed at the Doctor for his actions but seems unaware of how her involvement in his schemes has changed her own nature.
