9. Pride And Prejudice
The Doctor does not like soldiers. Yet his inability to see beyond the stereotype is reminiscent of war time propaganda. Its too easy to demonize someone in order to justify actions against them. He makes an outright slur, refusing to recognize Dannys intellect by implying he is some sort of mindless brute. He sees himself in Danny and he is uncomfortable with the memories the comparison brings. This is a Doctor who is still trying to come to terms with the part he played in the Time War and having a hard time reconciling that part of himself with the person he is now. Pacifism is a lovely ideal but is it a realistic one? What if refusing to fight our battles ultimately causes more harm than good? The Doctor is quite judgmental, believing he has that right due to his own perceived transgressions. This is a Doctor whos trying to find a way to forgive himself and finding it difficult to break out of a familiar pattern.
