Doctor Who Review: The Zygon Inversion – 6 Reasons Why This Story Wins The War

4. The Immature Mind

Bonnie is a terrorist. She does not represent all Zygons only a small group of them. While her stated goal is freedom for her people her actions indicate what she truly seeks is chaos. She thrives on fear and intimidation. She invokes paranoia and uses it like a weapon. Bonnie destroys a laptop when she does not obtain the answers she wants. She is a child throwing a tantrum without the experience to understand the consequences of her actions. When Kate Stewart cries out to the Doctor that the possibility of war is not a game Bonnie says nothing because she is still playing. Kate is the adult in this scenario and Bonnie is the kid seeking attention. She is thinking only of her moment in the limelight and unable to grasp the ramifications of her decisions. The Doctor forgives her when he recognizes the mirroring of his own frustration. He almost made a bad decision for the wrong reasons and it haunts him. He does not want others to make the same mistake without a chance to redeem themselves.
