Doctor Who Review: The Zygon Inversion – 6 Reasons Why This Story Wins The War

3. Kate Stewart

While Kate Stewart€™s motivations and reactions rang false in €œThe Zygon Invasion€ here they support the story. Kate isn€™t trigger happy she€™s defending herself in the only way she has and that makes sense. This is a Kate you can believe leads a premier military task force. She is strong and confident and willing to make hard decisions to protect her people. She is not perfect, still tending toward violent resolution but she is willing to listen and that makes all the difference. The Doctor remains judgmental when she chooses to shoots the Zygons in self defense. Yet perhaps because the situation with the boxes reminds him of his own past he is also gentle in his acceptance of Kate€™s apology. He doesn€™t give up on her even if he must experience the same thing multiple times before reaching a peaceful resolution. He keeps trying and this speaks to the connections he feels to humans in general and Kate in particular as the daughter of one of his cherished friend.
