Doctor Who Seasons 1-12 Ranked Worst To Best
2. Season Ten
Peter Capaldi's final season was one filled with twists, turns and emotion. Like most of Capaldi and Moffat's era, things got very dark and twisted. The Doctor's companions were Nardole, Bill Potts, and very briefly, Missy which added an interesting dimension to the story.
Capaldi’s final season was filled with great episodes. Like season five, even the “filler” episodes felt pretty strong...except Empress of Mars. Oxygen, Knock Knock, Smile and Thin Ice on the other hand. Perfection. And then there was the monk trilogy: a gripping story spread over three very different genres.
We even had one of the best modern companions in Bill Potts whose journey ends in a brutal tragedy. After Clara managed to avoid death, Moffat went down the complete opposite route with Bill. Fans were devastated to see the character gravely injured and eventually converted into a Cyberman. It was harrowing stuff.
Oh, wait though. This is Moffat. Bill was revived by her magical space girlfriend who died in episode one and then they two of them went off to explore the stars together...or something. At least it was a happy ending that...kind of...avoided the dreaded "Kill your gays" trope.
Who can forget the two Masters teaming up to become one of the greatest threats and then turning on each other as the Twelfth Doctor's story draws to its conclusion? Amazing. Moffat really went all out for his departure and left us wanting more.
